Next steps on nuclear discussion

Posted 10 March 2017

Late last year the South Australian Government released its response to the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission Report, outlining its support for nine of the Report’s 12 recommendations, including continued investigation of the opportunity to establish used nuclear fuel and intermediate level waste storage and disposal facilities in South Australia.

The Consultation and Response Agency (CARA), which delivered the state’s largest engagement program on record last year, and the CARA Advisory Board, have now provided their final advice to Government and will be closed.

The next phase of activity will focus on supporting a community-led discussion by maintaining access to resources and responding to community and stakeholder inquiries.

All existing data and reference material including videos, fact sheets and reports will remain available on to inform and encourage discussions amongst South Australians.

To coincide with the conclusion of the current phase of state-wide consultation, the ‘Know Nuclear’ social media channels will close at 5pm on 31 March, 2017. The community and stakeholders can continue to ask questions and provide feedback through, or freecall 1800 842 563.

The Department of State Development (DSD) will take responsibility for supporting this phase of activity commencing 1 April 2017.
